La Giunchiglia came into being in Lucca in the early 1980s. It was set up by a group of young art history students who loved their home town and wanted to make a career out of making its art and history better known to the public, so they organized walking tours of Lucca.
Lucca was not very well known at the time and opportunities for having the pleasure of showing it to visitors were few. Many of us were soon forced to turn to other activities and ended up doing tours as a hobby.
In the 1990s, La Giunchiglia was acting on a number of fronts in the hope of surviving. Some of the founding members gave up, others, including ourselves, who were more idealistic, decided to continue and keep investing time and energy, convinced that, eventually, it would be worthwhile.
We increased our knowledge of the surrounding areas by attending various courses and learning more in regard to Tuscan art, history, archaeology, botany, traditions, and also food and wine. We tried to focus on everything that would enhance the quality of our tours, and decided to promote all the cities of Tuscany. Today, you can book a guided tour with us for anywhere in Tuscany: Florence, Pisa, Arezzo, Grosseto, Carrara, Pistoia, Prato, Livorno and … Lucca of course! It is our home town and base.
Looking back over all those years of volunteering, we are very proud of what we “gave”. It all comes back to us every time our clients tell us how charming Tuscany is and how much they appreciate our presentation and the treasures and secrets that we show and share with them. Our passion became the best job we could possibly have. Our goal is to share that passion with everyone who comes to visit!
